Frequently Ask Questions

Q- What is an FLEXO Oil Skimmer?
A - The Flexo Oil-skimmer is the only Oil-Skimmer using an patent endless flexible chain
      or O-Ring
type conveying elements. The Oil Skimmer is an efficient, cost effective
     device that removes unwanted surface oils and floating particles in industrial-process liquids
     such as coolant tanks, parts washers, and process/cleaning baths.

Q - Why should you purchase an FLEXO Oil-Skimmer?
A - The FLEXO Oil-Skimmer had the best overall test result in a performance study for
      various types of Oil-Skimmers completed by the University Hannover in Germany.
A - To greater extent oil and floating particles adhere to the endless flexible chain.
A - FLEXO has a 12 month limited warranty.
A - Easily and fast mounting with the magnetic base.
A - Minimal maintenance cost.

Q – How much of the conveying element needs to be submerged into the liquid?
A – At the lowest liquid level, conveying elements should be still 15 to 30mm  (0.5 - 1.5 in)

submerged.

Q – Is the surface oil and floating particles removed from the entire tank?
A – The Oil-skimmer should be installed at a location were the surface speed of the liquid

is minimal for most effective operation. If the tank has baffles the oil and floating
      particles most likely will not pass through the restrictions, in this case we recommend

 using multiple skimmers.

Q – Can the FLEXO Oil-Skimmer be used in process / cleaning bath?
A – Yes, using the O-Ring type conveying elements. The O-Ring conveying element can be
      used in liquids up to 60 C (140 F) temperature. Many customers in Europe are using the
      FLEXO Oil-Skimmer model 40.810 in part washing systems and process baths with great
      success.

Q - How long will coolant last in a machine if properly maintained?
A - Typically a good maintained coolant should last one (1) year. It is important to start with a
      coolant type that rejects tramp oil well, The better a coolant rejects oil, the cleaner you
      can keep it with a oil skimmer, and the longer you can use it.

Q - What are the main coolant / metalworking fluid types?
A - Oil Soluble (Contains 60-85% mineral oil and emulsifies into water);

      Semi-Synthetic (Contains 5-50% mineral oil and emulsifies into water);

      Synthetic (Contains no mineral oil)

     (Soluble oil based coolant has lower tramp oil rejection properties then that of a semi-
     synthetic  based coolant. Full synthetic based coolant has great tramp oil rejection
     properties.)
